Knowledge Tip – Knowing the difference between lazy and ADHD

  1. The definition of laziness is “the quality of being unwilling to work or use energy; idleness.” most people with ADHD will report being willing to do the task but finding themselves not doing the work. The lack of being “unwilling” means it isn’t laziness. Many with ADHD talk of being told off for being lazy. Or having an internal voice saying they are lazy. When often the opposite is true –  the willingness is there but the executive function to do is not there. While to the outside the lack of desired end result might look the same the difference inside means it isn’t laziness.
