Nicola Bayliss. ADHD UK Ambassador
As a late-diagnosed education professional and parent of neurodivergent children, I am a passionate advocate for those navigating the challenges of diagnosis, education, and employment.
Pervasive misconceptions about neurodivergence continue to harm lives and create barriers across society. Tackling this systemic inequality is what drives my commitment to advocacy. I support individuals and families in securing timely diagnoses, alongside ensuring that effective support is in place throughout all stages of education and into adulthood. I also champion the employment rights of neurodivergent adults so they can thrive in the workplace.
In addition to my work in education, I collaborate with NHS Hospital Trusts and West Midlands Police to improve understanding of neurodivergence, especially in crisis or emergency situations where awareness can make a critical difference.
My advocacy journey began following my eldest daughter’s diagnosis in 2020, which led to my own referral. Receiving my ADHD diagnosis via the Right to Choose pathway in 2023 was a pivotal moment. Seeing my life through the lens of ADHD allowed me to release the guilt and shame I had carried through my experiences in education, the workplace, relationships, and beyond.
As an ADHD UK Ambassador, I am committed to fighting for greater public understanding of ADHD and its wide-reaching impact — so that all neurodivergent individuals have the opportunity not just to cope, but to thrive.
