Alex Oladujoye. ADHD UK Ambassador

Hi, I’m Alex. People with ADHD are like lovely magnets. Until my late diagnosis in my 40s I never really understood the reason why.

I’ve always been drawn to the fellow daydreamers, the ones who overshare, the ones who bring chaos, laughter and joy. But I’ve also always seen and being drawn to the ones who sit quietly in the corner. The sensitive souls and kind empaths who tune into others emotions so easily. The people pleasers, those who have struggled and felt like they’ve never quite fitted in to the world around them. The overthinkers and worriers, I see you. The folks who have all the ideas but then feel shame when those ideas like so many others never get off the ground. The people who are always running late or are chronically early and either way flustered. The ones whose brains literally never stop. The teenagers who get a bad reputation that they just can’t shake off. The creative adults and kids who are described as too sensitive, too much, too loud, disorganised, lazy and chaotic. The teenagers and then in turn adults being told that they “just” need to try harder, apply themselves and fulfill their potential.

That’s because I am all of these and how I’ve presented and felt in the past.

I remember clearly trying to navigate a world without the blueprint or map that everyone else seemed to have been given. Maybe I wasn’t on time when they handed them out! I’ve spent a long while wondering when I’ll get caught out for being an imposter….

Once I understood why (ADHD in case that wasn’t clear) Wow! did everything start to make sense!

My ADHD is something that I wouldn’t change for the world now I understand and can fully embrace it as it deserves.

I’m beyond passionate about supporting others with ADHD to make sense of the world which is why I am a full time Trauma informed ADHD Coach. Work no longer feels like work as I get to spend time with the best people, supporting them to find their unique path like I did mine. I felt a similar magnetic calling to become a ADHD UK ambassador and support the incredible and invaluable work that the charity does. ADHD UK has been an absolute lifeline for me when I was searching so I owe a debt and have to pay this forward.

Oh, and I’m a Mum to two Teenage boys with ADHD which is how I inadvertently got my own late in life diagnosis when I was trying desperately to support them. Through my lived experiences I hope to be able to make a difference to the people who need it the most.

If you’ve got this far in life without understanding your brain you, my friend are a warrior. But to have the knowledge and right support for your future is truly life changing.
