A fun and playful picture book that celebrates neurodiversity in a tale about a young pufferfish’s attempt to find a circus act that is right for her.
Sarah Lavelle Author Growing up with undiagnosed ADHD, Sarah didn’t see herself reflected in the characters of the books she read. After her late diagnosis she was finally able to grapple with her feelings of being misunderstood that followed her throughout her life. She’s delighted that she has the chance to be part of the world-wide movement to create more inclusive books that reflect our wonderfully neurodiverse society. She hopes her debut picture book “Piff in a Puffle” will open conversations about ADHD amongst adults and children alike.
Alongside her writing, she volunteers with ADHD Embrace, a charity supporting parents and adults who live and work with kids and teens with ADHD.

12 18:30 Why it’s STILL all going wrong for ADHD Kids & how we can change it Why it’s STILL all going wrong for ADHD Kids & how we can change it - Sarah Templeton (ADHD author, ADHD therapist and campaigner)

Why Sarah wrote her first book "How not to murder your ADHD kid - Instead Learn to be Your Child’s Own ADHD Coach",

her experience of working with ADHD offenders in young offender units and prisons

and why she's written her second book "TEACHERS! How Not to Kill the Spirit in your ADHD Kids! Instead Understand their Brains and Turbo-Charge our Future Leaders & Winners"
Sarah Templeton ADHD Author and ADHD Therapist Sarah wrote the hit book ‘How NOT to Murder Your ADHD Kid – Instead Learn to be Your Child’s Own ADHD Coach’ released in 2021, as she realised the key to stopping ADHD adolescents becoming homeless, unemployed, on drugs and in prison was to educate the parents. If parents could recognise their kids getting into these sorts of issues very early on and change their child’s life path by pursuing an early diagnosis, medication and managing their ADHD properly from the start, the end result would mean the prisons, homeless hostels and rehabs would NOT be packed to the rafters with ADHD Sarah-Templeton-Image-150x150.jpg HeadstuffADHDTherapy-logo-WEB-150x150.png

36 6:00 ADHD in South Africa An overview of ADHD in South Africa - Professor Renata Schoeman and Claire Tobin (Goldilocks and The Bear Foundation, South Africa)
South Africa continues to face a high level of inequality and poverty which leads to an increased risk for mental health conditions and limited access to healthcare services. Approximately 1 in 6 children will live with a mental health condition at any given time in South Africa. Of these, only 25% will receive the necessary treatment. The Goldilocks and The Bear Foundation is a non-profit organisation which offers free ADHD and mental health screening and early intervention services for children from underprivileged communities – assisting them and their families get the necessary support to help them reach their full potential.

Book reading: “All of these things are important to me”
The protagonist, “Zee” – is a truly South African “Goldilocks”. This book aims to increase awareness and educate communities about ADHD (and related mental health disorders) and to destigmatise the disorder and its treatment. Written in English, the story, depicting a day in the life of a typical ADHD child, has been translated into Afrikaans, isiXhosa, isiZulu, and Sesotho to afford as many children as possible the opportunity to read or hear it in their mother tongue so that they will understand it and know they are understood.
