Mala Thapar. ADHD UK Ambassador
Hi, I’m Mala Thapar. My incentive to be an Ambassador for ADHD UK is to ensure the importance of inclusion, equality and the need to recognise hidden disabilities and oppose unconscious bias towards people with health conditions and equal representation for Global Majority communities without disparity from an intersectional perspective.
As a neurodivergent woman with a physical disability, my lived experience reflects a clear understanding of cultural barriers. Masking has been fundamental in both gender and ethnicity.
Over many years, I have fought tirelessly for the education of my children with special needs, which led to several litigations where I experienced inequalities and systematic disadvantages, which has led me to campaign for equality after years of suppression.
Since then, I have been involved in several health advisory groups to improve experiences for service users and focus on non-discriminatory representation from an intersectional perspective.
I am a member of an Autism Partnership Board and a consultant in University committees and some national research teams formed of autistic people, academics, professionals and representatives from third-sector organisations. I participate in various networking panels for community organisations to preside over equal representation as a board member for an anti-racist foundation that networks across the UK.
In all these areas of my involvement, my goal is to ensure equal representation and equity for all communities.
I look forward to this next chapter of raising awareness in collaboration with ADHD UK in all communities.
