Hannah Roberts. ADHD UK Ambassador
Hi, I’m Hannah. I live in London and work as a Regional Director in adult social care.
I received my diagnoses at the age of 38 whilst looking into an ADHD diagnosis for my son. Weirdly, his school pointed me in the direction of ADHD UK for advice on the right to choose route and after MUCH research (thank you TikTok), I decided to explore a diagnoses for myself.
I share the same story as many other people who received a late diagnosis – I struggled to fit in at school, I under achieved throughout my education and spent most of my adult life masking who I am – I’m not even sure I knew who I was.
I’ve always struggled with Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, and found this especially hard within a work setting. During my worst time, I worked for a company where my colleagues didn’t ‘get’ me; I worked so hard to prove my worth and get people to like me, and I completely burnt out, which had a domino effect on all aspects of my life. Whilst this remains the hardest year of my life, I wouldn’t change it because it’s what spurred me on to seek a diagnosis!
Fast forward to today, I’m still navigating my life with ADHD but I understand myself, I don’t apologise for who I am, I’m confident (most of the time) and most importantly, I know my worth. When I think about my career, there have been many highs, but lots of lows, which I now know were due to ADHD. I’m passionate about improving workplace support for the neurodiverse community and want people to know that with the right knowledge, support and understanding – you can achieve anything!
I’m so excited to be an ambassador for ADHD U.K., it’s a bit of a full circle moment given this is where my journey started.
