Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust has temporarily suspended new ADHD referrals for adults over the age of 25 in order to prioritise over 7,500 children currently waiting for assessments. While existing adult referrals will remain on the list, no new adult cases are being accepted during this pause. The ICB says this decision aims to manage unprecedented demand and ensure timely care for younger patients. Nationally, there has been a 51% rise in ADHD medication prescriptions since 2019, with nearly 2.5 million people in England estimated to have the condition. ADHD UK criticised the move, warning: “We absolutely think this decision [to suspend referrals] represents a risk to life.
