Tom Norton. ADHD UK Ambassador
There is a great deal of misconception and misunderstanding about ADHD, and ADHD UK does invaluable work advocating for neurodivergent people across a wide range of settings. Previously, I worked in professional political and government roles, and around ten years ago, I trained to become a teacher. I have always loved working with young people with ADHD and Autism, and through this work, I came to recognise traits in myself that aligned with these experiences.
Since receiving my ADHD diagnosis in October 2024, I have learned a great deal about myself and about supporting others. I have completed an ADHD Coaching course, which has deepened my understanding of both my own challenges and the needs of the young people and families I support. I strongly believe that specific neurodivergent training should be a mandatory cornerstone of teacher education. Far from being a drain on resources, accurate diagnosis and proper support enable young people and adults to understand themselves and access the correct help they need. This is an important aspect to get right, given the overlap that neurodivergent challenges can have with other services.
I am thrilled to work with ADHD UK and to advocate more strongly for the benefit of all people impacted by ADHD.
