Jonathan Edgeley. ADHD UK Ambassador

Hi, I’m Jonathan. I am the Founder and CEO of Montrose Health Group, where my work focuses on supporting individuals living with ADHD and exploring the often-overlooked relationship between ADHD and addiction. My journey into this field is deeply personal, shaped by my own lived experience of recovery and a late diagnosis of ADHD.

For many years, aspects of my life that once felt confusing or difficult only began to make sense when I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 48. Looking back, the diagnosis helped me understand patterns that had been present for much of my life — including the challenges that contributed to my struggles with addiction earlier in adulthood.

Today, I have been sober for more than 12 years. Recovery has not only transformed my life but has also become a central part of the work I do. It gave me a deep appreciation for the importance of understanding the underlying causes of addiction, rather than simply treating the symptoms.

Through Montrose Health Group, I am committed to building services that recognise the powerful and often misunderstood connection between ADHD and substance misuse. Many individuals who struggle with addiction are unknowingly attempting to manage the effects of undiagnosed ADHD. Without the right support, people frequently turn to substances in an effort to regulate their emotions, quiet a busy mind, or cope with the daily challenges that untreated ADHD can bring.

At Montrose, we provide comprehensive ADHD assessments and ongoing support for both adolescents and adults, taking a holistic and neurodiversity-affirming approach. My goal is not only to improve access to high-quality ADHD diagnosis and treatment, but also to help individuals better understand themselves and develop healthier ways to navigate life.

Alongside clinical work, I am passionate about raising awareness of the link between ADHD and addiction. I believe earlier identification and better education could prevent many people from travelling the difficult path that so many of us in recovery have experienced.

As an ambassador for ADHD UK, I hope to use both my personal story and my professional work to help challenge stigma, improve understanding, and encourage more open conversations around neurodiversity, recovery, and mental health.

My message is simple: when ADHD is properly understood and supported, lives can change dramatically. For many people, the right diagnosis, the right support, and the right community can be the beginning of a completely new chapter.
