Sarah Kennett. ADHD UK Ambassador

Hi, I’m Sarah. For most of my life, I felt different. I often describe myself as the black sheep of the family. As a child, I even imagined that I might be adopted and that one day my “real” parents would come and find me, people who would somehow understand the way my mind worked. It felt a little like Annie’s story, waiting for someone who saw the world the way I did.

After nearly 50 years on the planet, the conversation around ADH, particularly in women, has finally begun to change. We now understand that ADHD can present very differently in girls and women, often leading many of us to go undiagnosed for decades.

When I finally received my ADHD diagnosis, it felt as though someone had switched on a light in a room that had always been dim. Suddenly, the quirks, the challenges, the intensity, and the way my brain connects ideas all began to make sense. That moment brought not only understanding but also compassion for myself.

I have spent over 20 years working in education, including leadership roles in schools. During that time, I have worked with many neurodivergent children and seen first-hand both their incredible strengths and the barriers they can face in traditional education systems. Too often, their potential is misunderstood rather than supported.

Today I have two clear missions.

The first is to support adults with ADHD through coaching, helping them understand their minds, build strategies that work for them, and recognise the strengths that often sit alongside ADHD.

The second is to help improve education for children with ADHD so that schools become places where neurodivergent learners can thrive rather than struggle to fit into systems that were never designed for them.

Becoming an ambassador for ADHD UK would allow me to continue raising awareness, sharing lived experience, and helping more people feel seen and understood. If my story helps even one person recognise themselves sooner than I did, then that is a change worth making.
