Jo Gotheridge. ADHD UK Ambassador
Hi, I’m Jo. Writing my first book ‘Love, Labour and Loss’ after the death of Mum and Dad, allowed me to explore my life experiences so far through brand new eyes. Eyes that were beginning to process my late diagnosis at 50, of ADHD. Two of the chapters of my book focus on ADHD but this is just the start! One of which is entitled ‘The Life of a Duracell Bunny’… Get it?
Prior to my writing, I was a highly driven, perfectionist in a primary classroom for 29 years! Many children with their wonderful uniqueness have passed through that classroom door, and I hope they would say I embraced their different learning styles and idiosyncrasies. However, no-one ever saw it in me because it didn’t look quite like you might expect. I am passionate about raising awareness in schools, with employers and within my readers, about how different this neurodiverse condition can look.
Since diagnosis, I have embarked on reading, research and coaching to fully process, understand and now embrace this aspect of me. Having ADHD doesn’t define me, but it has shaped me and now, at this point of my life I love that I can ‘be me’ but without burning out and suffering with my mental health – but sadly that was not always the case! I have a lot to say about this, no surprise there! But with your help, I can share the voices of others to better educate so that future children, teens, young adults, new mothers and menopausal women, do not suffer like I did.
