Why Leave a Legacy to ADHD UK?

Every Gift makes a difference…

While general donations keep the charity alive, legacy gifts are transformative for small charities such as ADHD UK. By pledging to leave a gift in your Will, you are making a lasting difference to the charity and its future.

What your gift could achieve….

Support: Providing free emotional and informational support for people with ADHD is only possible with funding. Leaving a gift to ADHD UK would mean we could continue to achieve this, and also expand even more. We want to provide support for everyone with ADHD who needs it.

Research, information and awareness: Carrying out research that will positively impact those with ADHD is so important. Leaving a gift to ADHD UK could fund a research project! Expanding knowledge of ADHD will lead to greater awareness and understanding. Providing accurate and quality information about ADHD will educate medical professionals and people in workplaces, schools, and universities. This is essential for people with ADHD at all stages in life.

How Do I leave a legacy?

How to make a Will…

We recommend you use a solicitor or professional Will writer. As Wills are so important, most people prefer a solicitor involved to ensure their Will is legal and valid.

How to change a Will…

You need a codicil to change an existing Will.

A codicil is a short, simple, legal document. This simply amends an existing Will to add a fixed sum (effectively a donation) to be given to a non-profit organisation, such as ADHD UK.

You can use the free and easy will-writing platform www.bequeathed.org

Click this link to register, and follow the steps provided. Simply complete the online will interview about the details of your will, and you can include ADHD UK as one of your intended beneficiaries. We hope that this would provide an uncomplicated experience for you.

    FAQs

I’m not wealthy, can I still make a difference?

Yes. This is especially true with a small charity such as ADHD UK. Every donation, however small, makes a difference and enables us to provide information, support and research for people with ADHD.

How should I start planning my Will?

When you first start planning your Will it can be a good idea to write down all your assets, liabilities and estate. You can then decide what you would like to leave and to whom. It may also be important to include any wishes you may have that you would like your loved ones to follow.

How can I find a solicitor?

Family and friends may be able to recommend a good solicitor. Alternately, if you live in the UK you can find a local solicitor via The Law Society (see below).

What type of gifts can I leave?
    1. Residuary gift (Percentage share)

This is the most common type of legacy gift. It is a gift of the residue of the estate and is expressed as a percentage of what is left over once loved ones are provided for. It can be any percentage you like. As this gift is a proportion of your estate it keeps pace with inflation.

Wording to use to leave a residuary gift:

I leave my / X share(s) of my residuary estate for ADHD UK, 11 Palace Court, London, W2 4LP registered charity number 1188365 (England and Wales), absolutely for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.

    2. Pecuniary gift (Fixed sum)

A fixed sum of money left as a gift in a Will. You can choose any amount you like but it is worth remembering inflation can reduce its value. It is important to review it from time to time.

Wording to use to leave a pecuniary gift:

I give free of inheritance tax £X to ADHD UK, 11 Palace Court, London, W2 4LP registered charity number 1188365 (England and Wales) for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.

    3. Gift of a specific item

You can also choose to leave a particular item to ADHD UK, such as a piece of jewellery, an antique or even a property. A gift like this should be named in your Will.

Wording to use to leave a specific item gift:

I give to ADHD UK, 11 Palace Court, London, W2 4LP registered charity number 1188365 (England and Wales) [description of item(s)] absolutely for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors

How should I review my Will?

It is worth reviewing your Will now and again to ensure that the decision are up to date. This is especially true at important life stages, for example when grandchildren are born, as you may then wish to include them to benefit from your Will.

What happens if I change my mind after leaving a gift?

You should think very carefully about a gift before you write one into your Will . However, if you change your mind you can amend and rewrite your Will whenever and however you choose.

How can I include ADHD UK in my Will if I live outside of the UK?
