Ryan Morton. ADHD UK Ambassador
Hi, I’m Ryan. As are many ambassadors I was diagnosed later in life and the diagnoses and subsequent journey of education, therapy research and medication for myself has been life changing. I can only now truly understand the impact that ADHD has had on mine and my families lives having been provided with the opportunity of support. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to get the help I needed but look back with saddens about how my life could have been.
As like anything else in life something that is important to you drives you to educate yourself and understand and I have been shocked at the level of mis-understanding and disrespect ADHD and neurodiversity in general. Whilst I understand I don’t understand everything that everyone else goes through there seems to be a particular agenda with ADHD that has really shocked me.
The impact that the support I have received on my life has been so significant I describe it as I feel like I have been blind all my life and now I can see. Of course that is not intended to compare being blind with having ADHD I do however feel like that illustrates the impact. Things that would take me half a day take me half an hour, my ability to focus for hours and the emotional regulation around RSD has once again been life changing.
What made me want to be an Ambassador was the injustice of people not getting the support they deserve and some of the horror stories of their treatment across a range professions. Something must be done and I will do my best to support whatever way I can.
