This feels really useful

Godd strategy but if it is for work start or appointment I set my alarm 2 hours before.

I set my alarm 2 hours early for work

I have tried this often but I find it very difficult to leave tasks incomplete and go back to - particularly when I then have to get back into what already took me - what feels like ages - to 'settle' into in the first place :-( This is particularly the case at work and causes no end of issues for me.

So glad to see this recommended here. I've been doing this for a few years now (since well before I knew anything about ADHD and that this was an issue) and it is vital for me to help not to forget work calls, webinars/meetings etc. I set it for the amount of time I need to get ready for the event - so for example if I am meeting someone outside the house, I set it to include any time needed to change clothes, drive there, park etc. And be sure you have the snooze button set!

Timers are a must to get me off of my butt when too engrossed in a piece of work. This is because my working way is to push through, get things done and give myself more free time. Doesn’t always go down well with rigid office working structures. If i am towing the line and giving myself breaks to recover, I tend to use a 25 minute timer, much like the one named after a vegetable - or fruit - if you are going to be pedantic about it.

Should the links be working?

Alarms have always helped me - so has good use of work calendar and putting in regular slots / times to tasks

Timer on watch helps not “loose “ time by hyper focus

Yes I have already tried this myself, sometimes it works and sometimes I have ignored it finishing something else and then am still late to a meeting and so on. But it’s still going in my list of tips!

Good idea, have a few minutes to breathe, get organised

I have used often when I know I have something important to do and I also have something to do that will keep me busy and it works well

I do it, but it 99% of the time it doesn't help me. Alarms seem to just blur into the background. If I'm focussed on something else I hit snooze or turn off without even knowing I've done so, then 30 mins (or 2 hours) later it's OooooH S***!!!!

Would be helpful if I could keep on top of being so organised to set alarm

I find this hard as i dont like leaving tasks incomplete. I tend to set the alarm 1 hour before to make sure i start no new tasks and choose a light admin task, rest or refresh on meeting content instead.

will try this

I still do this every day and I’m retired! I also code my phone diary using coloured dots or squares 🟣🟧 to draw my attention to its importance. If it’s not in my diary (with an appropriate time alert) then there’s no chance of it being done!

Definitely a good idea. Only problem is I sometimes get distracted when setting an alarm & find the sound is not on (or similar errors!)

I really need this at the moment. Is there an app for that? I am unlikely to sit and set alarms for each meeting every day. Lots of meetings...

This is a good idea

Changed my world. I also set the 3 minute alarm for when I need to leave the house or other time sensitive things.

This is a great idea, I will implement it within my new job. I often forget to break for lunch etc.

I inadvertently do this already with Microsoft outlook they automatically set up reminders at 15 mins before a meeting/task you set in your calendar.

Community member Carried over

I'm going to try this as a reminder to STOP working! 🙂

This has been game-changing for me.
