NHS Integrated Care Boards, Health Boards, and Health & Social Care Trusts
We are collating the information we have by NHS Areas – to better enable you to know what choices are available to you.
The NHS is organised into areas and each area is managed by an ICB, Healthboard or equivalent.
In England the ICB are the commissioners and have the responsibility for NHS services in your areas. They commission trusts, hospitals and other providers to provide your NHS services to you. ICBs and Trusts are similar to Council Education Departments and Schools. ICBs and Councils fund and have ultimate responsibility for adequate services. The delivery of health is then done by Trusts and Hospitals/etc. or and the delivery of education by schools and colleges.
In Scotland and Wales commissioning and delivery is merged. In Northern Ireland there is a national commissioning service with Trusts delivering services.
