How NHS Dumfries and Galloway compares with other areas
Each dot is one NHS area. Further right means a longer wait at the current pace.
What does "at the current pace" mean?
We divide the number of people waiting by the number of assessments the service did in the last year. It shows how long someone joining the list today could wait if nothing changes. It is an estimate, not a promise: services can speed up, and some people are seen sooner because of urgency. The NHS standard for non-urgent care is 18 weeks.

What they told us
NHS Dumfries and Galloway told us via FOI (26-083, dated 03/06/2026) that 67 children are under active ADHD assessment, 146 child ADHD assessments were completed in 2025/26, and a child referred now would wait approximately 8 weeks for an initial appointment. EFFECTIVE WAIT: at the 2025/26 assessment rate (146 per year), the 67 under assessment represent roughly 0.5 years (67 / 146). Pathway: CAMHS initial assessment -> developmental history -> ADHD paperwork to home and school -> Conners 4 / classroom observation if needed -> MDT formulation -> consultant/doctor/ADHD-nurse diagnostic decision.

What is restricting access here
Rules the NHS here has put in place that limit who can be assessed, or how fast.
No clear local pathway
There is no adult ADHD service here. A local NHS report from September 2025 said new adult ADHD assessments had been stopped since the second half of 2023 because of medicine shortages and high demand, and no waiting list has been kept.
