EFFECTIVE WAIT: at the 2025/26 assessment rate (15 per year), the 5,529-strong waiting list represents an effective wait of roughly 369 years (5,529 / 15). | NHS Forth Valley told us via FOI (FOI/0010356, dated 21/05/2026) that it cannot say how many adults are waiting for or received an ADHD assessment: it "does not operate condition-specific mental health pathways", and extracting the data would exceed the FOISA cost limit (s.12). Adults seeking ADHD assessment receive it only as part of a broad holistic mental health assessment if they meet standard service criteria. All referrals to secondary care mental health are reviewed within 12 weeks of receipt. | Source | 2026-05-21 | 20212647
| NHS Fife told us via FOI (FOI 12232, dated 29/05/2026) that it cannot say how many adults are waiting for or received an ADHD assessment: there is no ADHD/neurodevelopmental-specific adult pathway, referral reasons are not recorded extractably, and a manual review of ~8,570 records (714 hours, ~£10,710) would exceed the FOISA s.12 cost limit. Adults are seen within the generic mental health service only if they show "significant risks... and/or significant levels of disability"; the service aims for the 18-week RTT standard but this varies. | Source | 2026-05-29 | 20212646 | |||

ACCESS CRISIS: the Aberdeenshire pathway "is now closed" to new referrals; Moray has "no current service" (oldest referral September 2021); Aberdeen describes an UNFUNDED service relying on transient junior doctors and is "currently seeing people who were referred in July 2022" (~4 years). The 208-week figure reflects Aberdeen's stated position. | NHS Borders told us via FOI (77-2627, dated 03/06/2026) that it cannot say how many adults are waiting for or received an ADHD assessment: the referral system does not record referral reasons, there is no ADHD-specific pathway, and - notably - NHS Borders has NO DIGITAL MEDICAL RECORDS SYSTEM (patient records are paper), making extraction impossible within FOISA cost limits (s.17/s.12). Adults are assessed within generic secondary-care mental health only and "the patient requires to have a comorbid mental health condition" for ADHD assessment to be considered. | Source | 2026-06-03 | 20212644
| NHS Dumfries and Galloway told us via FOI (26-083, dated 03/06/2026): "NHS Dumfries and Galloway do not have an adult ADHD service" (s.17 - information not held). Access criteria require co-morbid mental health issues needing secondary-care input plus severity of daily-functioning impact. The response referenced an attached adult pathway document that was not actually attached - requested. | Source | 2026-06-03 | 20212645 | |||
| NHS Highland told us via FOI (28965, dated 03/06/2026) that approximately 247 adults are waiting for an ADHD assessment in the Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership. In North Highland, 625 people are on a psychological therapies waiting list that includes ADHD - but service and recording changes mean ADHD-specific numbers cannot be identified (s.17), so the 247 understates the true Highland-wide position. The number assessed in 2025/26 is not held centrally; projected waits are not held. Pathway via published guidelines (s.25). | Source | 247 | 2026-06-03 | 20212650 | ||
| NHS North East London ICB told us via FOI (FOI.26.NEL055, dated 04/06/2026) that it does not routinely hold adult ADHD waiting or assessment data - held by NELFT and ELFT. Pathway: complex needs/comorbidities go to secondary care; less complex needs are directed by GPs to Right to Choose providers. NOTABLE: adult RtC assessment is currently accessed via OUT-OF-CONTRACT provision - "the ICB does not hold formal contracts with RtC providers... Until this work is finalised and contracts are in place, RtC treatment provision is not commissioned". Accreditation and service-specification policies are in development; IAP planning is being explored but none finalised. | Source | 2026-06-04 | 20212616 | |||
| NHS Lanarkshire told us via FOI (FOI/0006499/AM, dated 04/06/2026) that 3,452 adults were waiting for an ADHD assessment as at 30 April 2026, with an average waiting time of 84 weeks. The number assessed in 2025/26 was refused under s.12 (manual record check). GATE: all referrals are triaged under the CMHT protocol - those not meeting clinical acuity or risk thresholds are "managed through waiting list arrangements". | Source | 3452 | 2026-04-30 | 20212651 | ||
| NHS Tayside told us via FOI (IGTFOISA26378, dated 04/06/2026), broken down by partnership: Perth & Kinross - 650 adults waiting, just TWELVE assessments in 2025/26 (at that rate ~54 years; not derived on this row as coverage differs), no waiting-time estimate possible, comorbid mental-health cases prioritised. Dundee - approximately 771 adults awaiting an ADHD-related appointment (local estimates; TrakCare cannot identify referral reasons), longest current wait 258 WEEKS; assessments not extractable. Angus - numbers not held (s.17); Angus has moved to a NEW STEPPED-CARE ND MODEL that explicitly shifts "the focus from providing a diagnosis to providing support" and reduces reliance on medication, using third-sector peer support (Penumbra, Hillcrest, Autism Initiatives, Dundee & Angus ADHD Support Group) before any CMHT MDT assessment. The 1,421 figure combines P&K + Dundee only. | Source | 1421 | 2026-05-14 | 20212655 | ||
| NHS Birmingham and Solihull ICB told us via FOI (FOI 26-171, dated 05/06/2026), from the Q4 2025/26 Midlands Neurodivergent Waiting SitRep, that the BSMHFT Adult ADHD service had 6,363 adults at pre-diagnosis stages (618 awaiting screening/triage + 5,635 awaiting assessment + 110 awaiting diagnosis), plus 423 awaiting intervention and a 1,912 caseload. Average wait from referral to first assessment: 945 DAYS (~135 weeks); longest 1,421 days (~203 weeks). Annual assessment volumes not held (redirect to BSMHFT). IAPs ARE in place for adult RtC providers but details were REFUSED under s.43(2) FOIA (Commercial Interests). Note: response covers NHS Birmingham and Solihull only (now part of the B&S + Black Country ICB cluster). | Source | 6363 | 2026-03-31 | 20212590 | ||
| NHS Lothian told us via FOI (11478, letter dated 01/06/2026, received 08/06/2026) that it cannot provide ANY adult figures: most adults are on a non-specific "Neurodevelopmental Assessment" list and identifying who is waiting for ADHD specifically would require reviewing each patient's clinical notes (s.12 - cost). Pathway: referral -> screening and triage -> assessment waiting list -> assessment appointment. | Source | 2026-06-08 | 20212652 | |||
| Powys Teaching Health Board told us via FOI (FOI.191.26, dated 08/06/2026) that 1,338 adults are waiting: 945 awaiting diagnostic assessment PLUS 393 referrals awaiting discussion for acceptance. 248 adult ADHD assessments were completed April-December 2025 (final-quarter data not yet available - no effective wait derived from the 9-month figure). The longest current wait is 3 YEARS 3 MONTHS, and the Board "cannot quantify" the expected wait for a new referral. GATE: only health professionals may refer, using a referral form including the ASRS. Pathway: MDT discussion -> assessment -> diagnosis -> titration in clinic -> shared care with GP where possible. | Source | 1338 | 248 | 2026-06-08 | 20212635 | |
| NHS Norfolk and Suffolk ICB told us via FOI (0053, dated 02/06/2026) that it does not hold adult ADHD waiting or assessment data: adult pathways are "primarily managed through primary care" and the newly formed ICB (established 1 April 2026 from the Norfolk & Waveney and Suffolk & North East Essex merger) is transitioning its data collection. Pathway: GP screening tool -> Right to Choose provider selection -> assessment -> treatment/titration -> shared care. IAPs ARE in place for adult RtC providers but details were REFUSED under s.43(2) FOIA - the ICB says the service is under review and it "may be in a position to disclose the information" once provider discussions complete.
