What does "at the current pace" mean?

We divide the number of people waiting by the number of assessments the service did in the last year. It shows how long someone joining the list today could wait if nothing changes. It is an estimate, not a promise: services can speed up, and some people are seen sooner because of urgency. The NHS standard for non-urgent care is 18 weeks.

What is restricting access here

Rules the NHS here has put in place that limit who can be assessed, or how fast.

Adults

No clear local pathway

There is no specific adult ADHD service here. Adults are only seen within general mental health services if there is evidence of significant risk or significant disability, and the local NHS says it cannot provide figures on how many are waiting for an ADHD assessment.

NHS Fife told us via FOI (FOI 12232, dated 29/05/2026) that it cannot say how many adults are waiting for or received an ADHD assessment: there is no ADHD/neurodevelopmental-specific adult pathway, referral reasons are not recorded extractably, and a manual review of ~8,570 records (714 hours, ~£10,710) would exceed the FOISA s.12 cost limit. Adults are seen within the generic mental health service only if they show "significant risks... and/or significant levels of disability"; the service aims for the 18-week RTT standard but this varies.
