ADHD assessment in NHS South East London ICB
Figures come from our own Freedom of Information requests. Last updated 20 July 2026.
At a glance
How NHS South East London ICB compares with other areas
Each dot is one NHS area. Further right means a longer wait at the current pace.
What does "at the current pace" mean?
We divide the number of people waiting by the number of assessments the service did in the last year. It shows how long someone joining the list today could wait if nothing changes. It is an estimate, not a promise: services can speed up, and some people are seen sooner because of urgency. The NHS standard for non-urgent care is 18 weeks.

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust
What they told us
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust — response 20 Jul 2026 (via NHS South East London ICB redirect FOI26SEL052). ADULT, 3 Boroughs Adult ADHD & Autism Service (Lambeth, Lewisham, Croydon): 4,643 adults waiting (as at 20 Jul 2026); 181 assessed FY2025/26 -> derived effective wait ~25.7 years (4643/181). Trust states patients currently being booked have waited 4 years 8 months; the far-higher derived figure shows the queue is growing much faster than it is being cleared. Funding is uneven across the three boroughs (ICB allocation) so waits differ by borough; outsourcing under way in Lambeth and Lewisham. NICE NG87 pathway (DIVA-5). Commissioned by NHS South East London ICB (+ NHS South West London ICB for Croydon).
Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust
What they told us
Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust (FOI 12242, response 9 Jul 2026): adult waiting numbers withheld under s.12 (cost) pending a clinical-records migration expected to take 6-12 months. Adult assessments attended Dec 2025-May 2026 totalled 389 (6 months only). Southeast London ADHD Referral Triage routes suitable patients to a Right to Choose provider or to Oxleas.
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust
What they told us
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust — response 20 Jul 2026. CHILD (CAMHS): 2,748 children waiting for an ADHD assessment as at end April 2026; average current wait 19 months. Number assessed FY2025/26 NOT held (clinical-records system cannot separate assessment appointments by type), so no throughput-based effective wait can be derived. CAMHS ADHD pathway document supplied.
Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust
What they told us
Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust (FOI 12242, response 9 Jul 2026): 2,365 children waiting for a first appointment on the ADHD assessment pathway as at May 2026; 805 CYP attended a first assessment appointment between 1 Apr 2025 and 31 May 2026; average wait 76 weeks. Effective wait ~2.9 years (2,365 / 805; note the assessed figure spans 14 months). ADHD-only or joint ASD/ADHD pathways allocated from triage.
Guy's And St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
What they told us
Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (FOI 2940, response 6 Jul 2026), holding children's ADHD data for NHS South East London ICB: number waiting not ascertainable (ADHD referrals sit within the general initial developmental appointment queue); 316 children received an ADHD diagnosis within the Trust's Children's Community Service in 2025/26; median wait to initial developmental assessment 22 weeks. Paediatric ADHD service available only in Lambeth; in Southwark it is commissioned through CAMHS. The Trust has no adult ADHD service.
