ADHD assessment in NHS Surrey and Sussex ICB
Figures come from our own Freedom of Information requests. Last updated 18 August 2026.
At a glance
How NHS Surrey and Sussex ICB compares with other areas
Each dot is one NHS area. Further right means a longer wait at the current pace.
What does "at the current pace" mean?
We divide the number of people waiting by the number of assessments the service did in the last year. It shows how long someone joining the list today could wait if nothing changes. It is an estimate, not a promise: services can speed up, and some people are seen sooner because of urgency. The NHS standard for non-urgent care is 18 weeks.

EFFECTIVE WAIT: at the 2025/26 assessment rate (412 per year) the 13,212-strong waiting list represents an effective wait of roughly 32.1 years (13,212 / 412). What they told us
FOI 26.27-2316 (letter dated 5 Aug 2026, sent 18 Aug 2026): 6,169 children waiting for an ADHD diagnosis. The number of children assessed in 2025/26 is not centrally reported (would need a manual review of records), so no effective wait can be derived. Stated wait: approximately 4 years - the Trust is currently assessing young people referred in 2022. Pathway: referral, triage, wait list, assessment, referral for treatment and/or medication.

Where triage flags a complexity, or a prior diagnosis needs clinical review, your referral goes to a member of our clinical team first, this can add on a week or two, depending on volume.
