Channel 4’s new documentary ‘The Great ADHD Myth’ questions whether ADHD is a genuine neurodevelopmental disorder or just a social construct. This has caused a strong and angry response from parts of the ADHD community – including an open letter from ADHD UK addressed to Channel 4.

Henry Shelford, the CEO of ADHD UK, believes that the documentary is appalling, and is a flippant attempt to change society’s attitude towards ADHD.

Dr Hilary Jones has seen an increase in patients being diagnosed with ADHD in the recent years – which he puts down to more awareness. He says he understands why the question in the documentary is being asked – but ultimately believes that it’s called a disorder for a reason, and regardless of how you want to label it – people, especially kids, with ADHD need help.
