Merlin Entertainments is introducing a new virtual queuing system for its Ride Access Pass (RAP). It will launch at Alton Towers at the end of the year and roll out to other Merlin parks, including Thorpe Park and Legoland Windsor Resort, next year. Instead of queuing in physical lines, pass holders will wait the same amount of time as other visitors through an app, get a notification when they’re near the front, and then use a dedicated entrance. Eligibility for the pass stays the same: it remains open to people who struggle with long queues because of a physical, emotional or learning need.
The change follows a backlash in February. Proposed changes would have excluded visitors with conditions such as ADHD and autism, and Merlin paused them after a petition gathered more than 25,000 signatures. ADHD UK was one of the charities and partners, alongside Disability Rights UK, Scope and the National Autistic Society, that helped shape the new system and has welcomed it. Merlin says it listened to feedback from pass users and charities and will keep working with them as the system rolls out.
