  1. The Government advises that everyone take Vitamin D supplements October-March.  Vitamin D deficiency has been shown to be linked to low mood, an increased prevalence of depression, and increased suicide risk. Supplementing with Vitamin D for the management of depression and anxiety and mood disorders has research backing and is seriously considered. The commonality of vitamin D deficiency and link to low mood, its wider health benefits, and low risk of harm mean taking a Vitamin D supplement should be seriously considered. For further information please review the NHS information here and consult your Doctor with any questions or concerns.

It sounds stupid if you've not experienced it, but I genuinely think taking a Vitamin D supplement saved my life. I used to experience extreme Seasonal Affective Disorder (or Seasonal Depression). My mental health always felt cyclical and absolutely plummeted around November time. Last Winter (2024) was the first Winter I went through taking a Vitamin D supplement, I think I'd been on since about April. I did still experience a bout of seasonal depression, but it was no way near as severe. I felt less like a wounded animal all season and more like a rational, reasonable adult. Sure I was still depressed, but it was the first winter I felt like me.

Seriously, if you are reading this and anything resonates, and you aren't already- please consider taking one. Don't take more than the national recommended daily intake (too much Vitamin D can cause a build up of Calcium, Hypercalcaemia which is not fun! so no "super double extra strength please!) I didn't really believe in taking any supplements before unless I'd had a deficiency appear on bloods, but it was the simplest, easiest, cheapest thing, and probably also the single most effective thing I ever did for my mental health and overall wellbeing.

Everyone should take a Vitamin-D supplement **Year Round**.
We need to use sunscreen to prevent burning & skin issues (of course!!) BUT the downside of this, is that it does not let the Vitamin D through.
I, personally, absolutely HATE the summer & hot weather.... Give me Autumn & darker evenings any day (I don't like it dark at 4pm, don't worry, I'm not THAT crazy!) But I hate it light until 10pm. I can't settle, I don't eat.
Anyway - Vitamin D should be taken year round, ideally, but just in lower doses during the summer months.
BetterYou have AMAZING Vitamin D oral sprays, which vary in strength from 1000ųg - 4000ųg, the highest one is for use during the Autumn & winter months (☆Remember - Winter does not even BEGIN until 21 Dec, it ends on 21 Mar [roughly]).
So, check them out.
They're really really easy to take, just one spray onto your cheek each morning & done.
Its absorbed trans-dermally, so there's no worry about bioavailability (it can decrease by the time it is in the stomach)
And I love how the strengths are so adaptable - Stronger in Autumn / Winter & Weaker in Spring/Summer! Unless you're like me and you hide away all summer, that is!!
P.S - the NHS calls this "Reverse" S.A.D, which is quite upsetting... It is called "Seasonal" Affective Disorder for a reason. Summer is a season, its just less common to get S.A.D in the summer....
But the NHS shouldn't be calling it "Reverse"!
Look on Mind for some more inclusive info.

And remember - BetterYou Vit-D sprays!!

Almost everyone in the northern hemisphere should do this. WHen I don't take vitamin D I notice a little while later that my mood has dropped. Fundamentally alters my mood level in a positive manner.
